Prada Choices, Menswear Spring/Summer 2023 – by Aybuke Barkcin

The much anticipated show of Milan Fashion Week debuted today at Fondazione Prada. Staged in a two-dimensional white paper house, Prada Menswear SS23 show started with the roaring songs of the American alternative rock band Sonic Youth.

The collection is titled “Prada Choices” highlighting the fundamentals of a men’s wardrobe, chosen by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons. For this season, the creative duo decided to go back to the core of dressing up and opted for a line-up of restrained and simple silhouettes, featuring; classic men’s suits with hidden buttons, trenches in tablecloths prints, light knitted tops with striped colours, high-waisted leather shorts… accessorised with pointy cowboy boots and Prada tote bags.

As if some models were grown-ups while others were schoolboys, the ensembles struck a balance between formality and playfulness, corporate and kinky. However, the true intention behind the collection wasn’t hidden in the clothes but rather in the title “choice”. For Prada and Simons, the season revolved around the importance of debating and assessing various designs and to finally ask, “there are hundreds of coats, why is this the right one?”
