Y2K all the way with Diesel MFW FW 22/23 – text by Leticia Dare

Dear Shaded Viewers,

It was like stepping into an early 2000’s music video by the likes of Destiny’s Child with belt skirts, frayed and ruched denim pieces -including knee high boots- crop tops and distressed leather jackets galore. My inner teenage self couldn’t stop smiling. I loved it and Glenn Martens distinct style could be seen shining through multiple Diesel archive shapes and styles. Through multiple techniques the denim was reworked, torn & chopped, with a personal favourite using just the frayed ends of denim to create a fluffy oversized pink denim coat.  The Diesel logo was also reworked to resemble a car metal badge and was placed across tops, skirts, shoes, bags and jewelry pieces. The set was inflatable giant sized models dressed in denim in different sexual positions and was photographed just as much as the collection was by every influencer in the room, so naturally I joined in. Diesel is a perfect fit for Martens’ style and has started a new Y2K movement that will no doubt be seen in many music videos and clubs alike this year with rapper Gunna being spotted front row to lead the pack.

Later,

Leticia
