Undercover Pays Tribute to Alfred Hitchcock, Men’s Fall 2022 by Aybuke Barkcin

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Designer Jun Takahashi continues to explore the realm of film in his latest men’s fall 2022 collection, paying tribute to the ‘master of suspense’ filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock.

Titled Psychopillia, this season Takahashi dives deep into Hitchcock’s iconic 1960s psychological thriller “Psycho”, using his jackets and suits like canvases, decorated with cut-out patches illustrating the scenes from the film, some scattered around as small details, while others woven to cover the entire back panels of the outerwear pieces. The rest of the collection is carried out with ensembles which bear Hitchcock’s image, Psycho logos, the Undercover ‘U’, as well as an addition of little tongue-in-cheek phrases on sweaters like “I have a third eye but it is blind”, “Delicate as the Devil, wild as an Angel”, “Life has its peaks, valleys and water station”.

Stepping away from cinema, the highlights of the collection are the mid-length pleated skirts in tartan motifs, styled under sweaters with stripped socks, giving an elevated aura to the cool rebellious school-kid persona. While the bright neon cable-knit sweaters vitalise the colour palette.

Waders in soft textures, baggy cargo-pants, rubber Bean Boots, tracksuits are playful interpretations of the outdoorsy style, pulling us away from the urban life, taking us a little closer to the countryside. The collection ended with fresh tailored looks in grey tones; double-breasted coats, slim trousers with zippers and corporatised kilts. With a dash of theatrics and humour, “distorted and unique perspective extends everyday clothes beyond the conventional.” as the designer describes.
