The lovely actress Catrinel Marlon in the ‘Empyrean Dress’ from the AW21/22 Couture collection of Iris Van Herpen

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Although I receive these all the time and am happy to see who wears the clothes, I rarely if ever make posts with the news. This time is an exception. The lovely model/actress Catrinel Marlon wore the ‘Empyrean Dress’ from the AW21/22 Couture collection of Iris Van Herpen, entitled ‘Earthrise’, at the premiere of ‘Stillwater’ at Cannes Film Festival.

The gown is part of the Autumn-Winter 2021/2022 Couture collection ‘Earthrise’, which has just been presented by Iris van Herpen during Paris Haute Couture Week on 5th July 2021. In collaboration with French-British artist Rogan Brown, a myriad of delicate relief sculptures made from the accretion of multiple hand and laser-cut layers of delicately dissected Parley Ocean Plastic® materials is individually hand-stitched onto the bodice, expanding into a short silhouette.

The meticulous detailing goes beyond the eye’s perception, where fabric is torn and layered in multiple directions simultaneously through powerful force, mirroring the fabric’s evolution from plant, to weave, to plant again. The dimensional layering has been designed, using Parley Ocean Plastic®, sourced from upcycled marine debris in collaboration with Parley for the Oceans.
Catrinel Marlon and Massimiliano di Lodovico
On a personal note, I have the sweetest memory of a private dinner in Rome chez Catrinel Marlon and Massimiliano di Lodovico celebrating ASVOFF Rome edition. They now have the most beautiful daughter but then again, how could she be anything but.
Later,
