Ziggy Chen INACGRAPHY-references ancient Chinese painting and serene modernity – Creative Direction & Styling: Ziggy Chen

INACGRAPHY is the name of the collection, it means cryptic and magical at first sight: Inacgraphy. Ziggy Chen created the word, includes inaction and iconography and is a tribute to classical painting and the characters that populate it. These characters are idealised, almost divine and a tribute to the men in ancient Chinese paintings. The garments look ancient and yet they look new, they are full of little surprises for the wearer. Some jackets have a small detachable bag or are reversible. The textiles are created from weaves of cotton, linen, ramie and viscose. Shades, like varnished paintings are in green and natural ocher accents.

Ziggy Chen seeks to articulate the encounter between tradition and contemporary times – expressed through the medium of clothing. The evolution of the project from its inception has manifested a strong focus on the research and detailing of simple volumes. As well as the exploration of different uses of materials. This revisits the rule of industrialization without compromise, to redefine the landscape of what is commonly accepted as old or new.
