AREA – Spring Summer 2021 – Haute Couture PFW – text by Ivo Barraza Castaneda

Area just presented their first official Haute Couture collection, framed inside the Paris Fashion Week, the institution that hosts the absolute best of fashion craftsmanship and innovation from all around the world.

Founded in the 50’s, the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, has ensured us with providing the right validation and projection to the best designers in history, starting with Monsieur Christian Dior himself, passing by Jean Paul Gaultier and contemporary legend Martin Margiela, all the way to today; when designers are cast from Instagram, where also celebrities make their orders. If Madonna gave that Gaultier cone bra a global stage in the 90’s, it is Beyoncé who gives a global multi dimensional stage to Area… Among others.

Often when brands are invited to show a couture collection, they just bug. Not the case with Area, you could almost say that they were born for couture. Today, they gave new life to tradition and craft. They made our hearts pump faster, fired with excitement as we discovered never-seen-before garments and ways of imagining glamour. It’s beautiful, it’s new, it’s contemporary, and most importantly; it’s full of hope! Thank you Area

Hello, my name is Ivo. My three favorite things in life are: Thinking deeply about visual creation. I like having long discussions of ideas that might reinvent the course of history. And finally, spending time with the people I love. Since I was a child, I was always involved in some activity around plastic arts, music and literature. That’s how I learned to sew by hand at the age of five, which later led me to focus on my main professional media: Fashion Design.
