A Parade by Kim Jones for Dior Men AW21 by Aybuke Barkcin

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Kim Jones, the Artistic Director for Dior Menswear proves himself with each season that even in the darkest times, creativity prevails. A true mastermind who not only creates garments that will be desired for years to come, but also a visionary who understands exactly what people want.

While many brands toned down their collections to dress a world consumed by the pandemic, for the AW21 collection, the Artistic Director chose to challenge the reality and presented a masculine interpretation of couture. Displaying a ceremonious ensemble for the day. Revealing a contemporary take on the past with sensual and romantic interpretations of military uniforms… pushing us to question what masculinity is today.

The Artistic Director’s vision for menswear is filled with infinite possibilities and so is his collaborations with different artists. The merge of fashion and art were once again celebrated on the Dior runway today. This time bringing Scottish painter Peter Doig’s pieces to life, an artist who is known for creating unsettling landscapes and exploring the relationship between mankind and nature. From an interpretation of Monsieur Christian Dior’s dog Bobby to a lion, different animal motifs drawn by the artist appear on the garments.

The collection was a parade of color, art and design. It fed our hunger for newness while giving us reassurance for a brighter future in fashion.
