Dear Shaded Viewers,
Sean Baker’s THE FLORIDA PROJECT offers a “Little Rascals” for our times, and the best ending since Truffaut’s 400 BLOWS. A six-year-old girl and her two best friends run wild on the grounds of a week-by-week motel complex on the edge of Orlando’s Disney World. This is a picture of childhood on the margins with a vision that is full of adventure and survival beyond heartbreak. As a filmmaker myself, Sean inspires.
Later,
Vincent Gagliostro
