Josef Koudelka Exiles/Wall Exhibition text by Chiara Sabatini

Dear Shaded Viewers,

“I don’t like captions. I prefer people to look at my pictures and invent their own stories.”    Josef Koudelka

Here some pictures from the sublime KOUDELKA exhibition in Rotterdam.

Exiles Wall  are two projects by the legendary Magnum photographer that crystallises his 20 years of wandering through Europe in exile.

For the first time the two works are presented together in the Nederlands Fotomuseum.

His lifestyle led to his unique photographic style that expresses a feeling of loss and disorientation, there is a constant tension in Koudelka’s work.

What we see in the pictures is a sensitive commentary on the human condition.

Koudelka does not use captions, all of his photographs are black and white. They can be seen time and again, making new discoveries with each viewing.

Later,

Chiara Sabatini
