Dear Shaded Viewers,
“In order to perpetuate itself, every oppression must corrupt or distort those various sources of power within the culture of the oppressed that can provide energy for change.”
-Audre Lorde, Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power
Sister Outsider is a show of protest and solidarity, featuring artists working in a range of media, who all belong to communities that have been directly threatened by Donald Trump’s divisive campaign rhetoric, his intended policies, and his preposterous and unconscionable cabinet appointments.
The exhibition borrows its name from poet and activist Audre Lorde’s compilation of essays and speeches originally published in 1984.
Artist/Photographer, Miguel Villalobos was invited to a group show “Sister Outsider” curated by Dani Orchard. It opens this Friday @underdonk. Also in the exhibition: Kiran Chandra, Louis Fratino, Katya Grokhovsky, Eric Hibit, Gina Malek, Nikki Maloof, Troy Michie, Cristina de Miguel, Dyke Action Machine! (Carrie Moyer and Sue Schaffner), Jasmine Murrell, Amanda Turner Pohan, Katie Rubright, Logan Sibrel, Michael Stamm, Rachel Sussman, Simone Thompson, Rebecca Ward, Peter Williams, Alejandro Yoshii
