MOMU Antwerp presents Margiela, the Hermès Years

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Save your date with Martin Margiela at the ever-wonderful MoMu Antwerp, where the Martin Margiela: The Hermès Years exhibition opens on March 31st, 2017. The timing of MoMu’s proposal is impeccable: for Fall 16-17, Marginal was touted as the true protagonist of much of the fashion world’s discourse.

Spanning the Belgian designer’s 1997 to 2003 tenure in the rarefied French house, it’s the first time his work for the French house has been thus explored. Over the course of 12 seasons only, Margiela pared back to what luxury truly meant, and still means today: craftsmanship, impeccable detailing and a sense of timelessness. When he was appointed, many commentators wondered how the deconstructionist aesthetic of this avant-guard designer would mesh with a house better known for its utterly exquisite materials and classic identity, given what he had brought to the fashion table under his own brand.
