A visit with Stephane Chapelle, the passionate florist photos by Marco de Rivera

Dear Shaded Viewers,

My friend Sarah de Scisciolo thought that I would appreciate a visit to the boutique of Stephane Chapelle today and she was right. With eveything that is happening in the world right now nothing like a little beauty and nature to lift the spirits. Team Stephane Chapelle was in the middle of a photo shoot featuring one bouquet more beautiful than the next. I was curious to find out how he got started, turns out he studied horticulture, met two very important men in the field, the first was Jean Michel Martin and then Christian Tortu where he worked for 20-22 years. Considering he's had his own shop for 19 years that makes about 30 years in the business.

His pleasure comes from giving satisfaction to his clients and if the reception is a success or that the person receiving the bouquet is happy, he is happy. He works in fashion, does weddings and receptions or of course individuals can walk into his shop in search of something beautiful and they will leave, like me, with a big smile on their face. Like he says flowers are about sharing. I asked him about his most challenging jobs and he said it is the speed that things move in fashion, if you are setting up the decor it has to be done at the same pace that the fashion moves. His days start at 5 am and depending on the work could very well end at about the same time. Recently he had to prepare a wedding and had 45 days to organise it. The theme was the tree and for that he sculpted 5 meter high  trees in wood, and had roses at the foot of the trees. There were also metal trees on the tables with lights and the location…Chateau de Chantilly.

He is most proud of his shop which he spent a lot of time and energy in creating the exact atmosphere he wanted to showcase both his personality and his work.

If you are planning a wedding he is the perfect person to come to as he loves participating and sharing in that pleasure and you. No one is blase about weddings and he likes that.

He has no favorite flower, what is important to him is that they are cultivated correctly and all are magestic in their own right. For now he does not have a garden because it is not possible to have the time to devote to both his work and giving the daily attention that a garden requires. One day he says, it is a dream but for now it is put on hold.

The shop is located at 29 Richelieu, 75001.
