Running the gauntlet: Thomasine by Lily Templeton

“I like to tell stories” says Swedish designer Thomasine Barnekow. And the tales each of her designs tell all point to one mission: re-adorning hands around the world with the forgotten art of glove-making. This mathematics buff originally considered engineering as a career path, before finding her calling in the more creative – but just as precise – field of design. Barnekow left her native Sweden to study conceptual product design at Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
 
Although she originally felt attracted to product design, an internship at textile editor Malhia Kent – famous for the fantastic and innovative materials that come out of their mills – changed the game for the budding designer who turned to textiles.
