“Top Spin” @ Cinema Village & Spin New York (October 23)

Friday night, I was at the Cinema Village Theater for the NYC premiere of the documentary "Top Spin".

I had seen the film last year at the DOC NYC Film Festival and really enjoyed it.

The film follows three young athletes (Ariel Hsing, Lily Zhang & Michael Landers) as they compete in Ping Pong to make the U.S. 2012 London Olympic team.

It's beautifully shot and the backstories are interesting.

After the screening, the film's directors Sara Newens and Mina T. Son were joined by two of the film's subjects Ariel Hsing & Michael Landers for a discussion and Q&A session led by comedian Judah Friedman.

Then it was off to the ping pong bar/club Spin New York for drinks and some ping pong playing.

The highlight was a short exhibition match between Ariel and Michael.

If you are interested or play ping pong – this documentary is well worth checking out.
