Dear Shaded Viewers,
I was impressed with 'Footprint – The Tracks of Shoes in Fashion', a visual tour de force orchestrated by Geert Bruloot and Antwerp's dedicated MoMu team. A retail pioneer and true visionary, Bruloot has a rather cinematographic take on fashion, emphasizing narrativity and personal freedom. The exhibition takes us on a wonderful journey through the history of shoes in fashion, making it a genuine delight for footwear fetishists. Bruloot's knowledge of the craft -as well the extensive shoe collection he shares with partner Eddy Michiels- are clearly fascinating. I was lucky enough to be treated to a private tour before the official opening and could have listened to Bruloot talk for days, connecting every shoe on display to a specific story and given time within fashion history. The collection is, in fact, as emotional as it is comprehensive, adding to its unique appeal. Including the likes of Martin Margiela, Roger Vivier, Salvatore Ferragamo, Bernhard Willhelm, Vivienne Westwood and many others, 'Footprint – The Tracks of Shoes in Fashion' focuses on iconic footwear styles and defining fashion moments, as well as inspiring themes, which give us a powerful insight into the relationship between shoes and creativity. A curatorial must-see, the exhibition will run until the 14th of February next year.
Best,
Philippe
