Jeffrey Hinton – Jeffrey’s Dreamscape – Taboo in the 80’s Leigh Bowery and ‘scratch films’ …

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Looking for a dose of the 80's and a night of fun?

We Are Hoi Polloi

100 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6JQ London, United Kingdom

We very excited about Jeffrey’s Dreamscape, a curated, First Thursday, late supper, arty end up by Jeffrey Hinton. Each month Jeffrey will be going back in time via his extensive archive of video and photography to piece together a place from his past.

Our first stop will be Taboo, the mid 80’s club night set up by performance artist Leigh Bowery and where Jeffrey was responsible for creating his innovative ‘scratch’ films, which mixed such unrelated genres as porn and Bollywood.

But Jeffrey’s Dreamscape isn’t a recreation or a historical reenactment, rather we will catch glimpses, fragments and sense the mood of the time via music and visuals drawn from Jeffrey’s vast archive and then put through the wormhole of his mind. This is an intensely personal project for Jeffrey and a super fun, late-night social for all of us.

“Dress as though your life depends on it or don’t bother.” was Leigh Bowery’s advice for those desperate to get into Taboo. So in honour of that, those making suitable sartorial effort will receive a complimentary Taboo Cocktail, our specially created drink for the night. Jeffrey will be the judge.

A reservation is strongly recommended. To reserve a table for dinner call 020 8880 6100 or visit hoi-polloi.co.uk. Bar tables will be available to book for drinks only from 22:00 onward but these won’t be available online so do give us a call or drop by our front desk – it is always nice to personally book you in.
