Dear Shaded Viewers,
Creative duo Karin Wuethrich and Matthias Fuerst managed to tick all the right boxes with their MA graduation collection, which was presented in Basel last weekend. The city natives -who studied within the Institute of Fashion Design Basel headed by Professor Kurt Zhilmann and Creative Director Priska Morger- perfectly balanced wearability with innovation, pushing the silhouette to create new proportions. Androgynous pants and long shirts, as well as beautifully tailored jackets, seemed to twist around the models' bodies in a chic and nonchalant way, while the awkward feel of their hybrid accessories hinted at a sense of fun. Seen up-close, the collection was stunning and made out of deluxe fabrics, such as duchesse satin, embroidered Swiss lace, wool crepe, intarsia knit and felted wool. Wuethrich and Fuerst made their show believable, mainly because their clothes were well-cut, intricate and forward thinking. You could even imagine their garments blending into someone's wardrobe, which is not always the case with graduate collections. They are thinking of launching a capsule line soon, so watch this space.
