Dear Shaded Viewers and Diane,
London Collection: Men had yet to begin, and how propitious really that it were to do so in the wake of the first ever stand-alone MA Menswear show of the London College of Fashion – what with the unsurprisingly high percentage of UAL alumni whose newest collections we were and are going to see all around the city over the next few days. A wisely mustered selection of 12 was the call of key industry figures, namely Daryoush Haj-Najafi, Becc Gray, Machine-A’s founder Stavros Karelis and Port’s David Hellqvist: and if you squinted, you could try and guess each distinctive taste within the mix, in the perfectly tailored suits and most daring combos.
A personal favourite of mine was the work of Kitty Ng, from Hong Kong: she was inspired by the raffia raincoats farmers in the Far East had worn lifetimes ago, then proceeded to develop the fibre into a softer, washable thread for her delicate crochet patterns. And yet the outfits retained a crispy, paper-like appeal that had them swishing slightly, like scarecrows, as the boys moved.
More images below, and some more names to remember: Antonio Slusarz, Gebei He, Emma Fenton Villar and Na Liu.
