DRIES VAN NOTEN SS/15 – TEXT BY PHILIPPE POURHASHEMI PHOTOS BY SONNY VANDEVELDE

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Belgian designer Dries Van Noten has presented one of the strongest and most seductive shows in Paris so far, an ode to romance, sensuality and escapism. His fragile-looking women -hovering between hippie goddesses and Pre-Raphaelite babes- seemed nonchalant and calm, wearing loose-fitting clothes and menswear-inspired pieces, which were lavishly printed and embellished. The designer reinterpreted harem pants to give them a contemporary feel, while combining deluxe brocades on jackets and coats for an opulent look. Stripes were bold and dynamic, adding energy and strength to fluid silhouettes. When the models started lying down on what looked like a giant moss carpet on the runway -beautifully crafted by Argentinean artist Alexandra Kehayoglou- the finale was received with warm applause from an enthusiastic crowd. It was an emotional illustration of Van Noten's incredible talent, able to conjure up an entire mood and atmosphere within less than 15 minutes.

Best,

Philippe
