ROKSANDA, spring 2015 – by Silvia Bombardini

Dear Shaded Viewers and Diane,

ROKSANDA, who's recently opened a first store of her own and doesn't need a surname any longer, welcomes a promising spring with all the heart and firmness of mind we can expect to greet a fresh and auspicious next step. Her tailored asymmetries are spacious, sculpted, precise and sensible – these are folds, not frills, nor pleats, nor ruffles. Draping, historically a mean to disclose one's own decadence and excess, assumes a novel connotation: kinetic and vibrant in double-faced cotton, a single, sinuous fold per dress reveals unexpected geometries through the use of primary shapes. In up-to-date, matte shades of iris, steel pink and mint, Roksanda pairs her outfits with flat graphic sandals designed in collaboration with Nicholas Kirkwood, and allows but for the restrained embellishment of slashed Perspex plates, inspired by the waves of Plexiglas and Formica in Julia Dault's artworks.
