Dear Shaded Viewers,
A mini-retrospective of 40 vintage and modern black and white photographs and over 20 large-scale color photographs will be exhibited. Roxanne has been documenting the rich, famous and beautiful for more than four decades. In the 70's and 80's Roxanne was one of the first photographers allowed back stage at the fashion shows. She is credited for taking the snapshot to high art with her candid realism. Roxanne's archive includes over 200,000 negatives and color slides taken over hundreds of fashion events in Paris, New York,Milan andLondon.
Karl Lagerfeld calls Lowit "fashion historian..a witness to the marriage of vanity and fame." He went on to say "she overexposes her subjects while remaining under-exposed." Lowit never demands a pose – instead her subjects flirt, coax, beckon and reveal.
On a personal note, she was my neighbor for 13 years in NYC and has remained a dear friend ever since.
Later,
Diane
