Dear Shaded Viewers and Diane,
The Fairytale by Ulyana Sergeenko continued yesterday afternoon with her third couture presentation. The enchanting church-bell soundtrack with a strong Russian Gothic theme, set the not-so-unexpected theatrical tone of the collection. The medieval silhouettes of empire lines and fluted collars were tremendously romantic, and this indulgence continued with the traditional lacework, voluminous furs and elaborate embroidery. However, this collection did show a progression in Sergeenko's aesthetic, as she momentarily strayed from her signature overemphasised a-line form and opted for bell shapes, in sleeves and cape-dresses that completely ignored the waist. This is a good sign from the Russian designer, especially because she managed to keep the beauty and fantasy in this moment of divergence.
Happy Wednesday,
Sophie
