It is on a very rare occasion that the antithesis of the now suffices as the answer to the new, yet the thought process of Emma Summerton, as revealed in our latest issue, suggests that to ring true. Reaching into the realm of natural beauty and analogue language, relatability is restored to the photographic dialect. What would feel like a move backwards is suddenly a possible move forwards, and the absence of over manipulation of both the image and subject feels alarmingly liberating and fresh.
Spending no more than an hour with each girl, Emma was able to create a series of images that, whilst appear self referential, were no more than the result of her own game of dress up.
