Anish Kapoor’s Monumental Balloon “Leviathan” at the Grand Palais

SAM_4982

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Like the Madame Gres exhibition, I just cannot get enough of Anish Kapoor's monumental balloon "Leviathan". Walking through the  blood-colored, globulous balloon is like being sucked into its vortex. The vertigo-inducing structure is dedicated to Ai Weiwei, the jailed Chinese artist and government critic. the skin of the 75,000-cubic-meter balloon is made of PVC vinyl, not much thicker than the skin of a toy balloon. The journey begins when you walk through a stiff, narrow revolving door. WHen you enter youget the feeling that you are at the origin of the world. Actually it shares something with Terrence Malick's  'Life of a Tree'.

I went with Jason Last and his two friends right off the plane from NYC.
