Dear Shaded Viewers and Diane,
Last March during Seoul Fashion Week A/W10, Korean designer Saen Park approached her handbags as products to be repaired when not even customized. At the beginning of the runway there was a live bag-repair cabin including a handsome bag maker for GEAR3 by SAEN – delivering an everyday humble product. The handbags on show combined practicality and durability and were far removed from the pretentious aura a handbag exudes these days. Her works are inspired by mechanical themes, while neutrality and subtlety are always a consideration from the moment she starts designing – industrial manufacturers even supply the fabrics and trimmings (bolts, nuts, polyurethane and cables). I visited her atelier some days before her S/S11 presentation in Seoul and the peace in the air feels unusual. There is a monster around us who has been the S/S11 muse for the transformable collection
