Visiting with Tom Scott.

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Tom-hand

I just visited New York based knitwear designer Tom Scott and his doggy Linus at their new downtown studio.

This of course was a great opportunity to poke around in Tom's unpacked boxes without looking too nosy. Wrapped in yellow tissue paper were inspiration pieces of waxed doll heads, tin can elephants, solid plaster bronze-hued baby doll arms, a broken mannequin hand covered in glued muslin, balls of twine and Mexican collages…I was in paradise.

Tom-mask

Tom wore his vintage Venetian mesh mask with hand painted eyes, possibly for a masked ball or fencing when things get rowdy.

Tom-shoes

These tire sandals are from Johannesburg and are also apparently available with Nike logos carved into them. Tom and his friend, stylist Haidee Findlay-Levin had just been vacationing in South Africa and Tanzania so we looked at safari photos of Masai villages and the Ngorongoro Crater which is home to over 25,000 animals and some amazing shades of purple.
