Dear Shaded Viewers,
When I was in Athens for their fashion week I had the pleasure of meeting couture designer Loukia and found out that she had been best friends with the love of my Dad’s life, in a dream world of course, Melina Merkouri. Melina died in l994 and is considered the last Greek Goddess. Loukia designed the costumes that Melina wore in Sweet Bird of Youth. When I found that out I asked her to please send me some images of Melina in Loukia. Today the images arrived.
She was also the Minister of Culture and Athens was the European Capital of Culture at that time, 1985. Here she is with Francois Mitterand and the Andreas Papndreou at the Acropolis dressed in Loukia.
Loukia told me that Melina was the most elegant woman that she ever met and that was one reason why she liked to dress her in white.
