just came back from lovely Lille.
since the 2004 eurocapital stint the city is really trying to get off its feet, and has set-up an org to hold big public events, Lille 3000 (great name, huh ?).
last week they kicked off Bombaysers de Lille, 3 months of Indian themed concerts, expos and installations. The main street outside the train station is lined with giant elephants, katakhali (south indian mimed plays with great costumes) are to be perfomed at the opera…
the Tri Postal building is host to several Indian art shindigs, including a giant video installation of weavers with empty stares and clicking sounds that can be heard far outside, the exhibit Bombay Maximum City featuring a few fashion installations (one by Manish Arora with Katakhali references) + other great videos/installations.
and then, for no reason whatsoever, but much to my delight, the last floor of the building hosts an expo/showroom on cutting edge fabrics, futurotextiles. courreges, smelly (in a good way) dresses, electric fabrics….random, but fun.
all about Lille 3000
