Holly Lovecat, Ara and Joel are ‘Mynx’ — a simmering musical cauldron of sex, style, camp, and intelligence. Holly has been responsible for some of the better underground clubs in the city, including "Vinyl Dynasty," where she would dj, freestyle and do acrobatics across the bar in a swimsuit and high heels. Every time I pressure her to do another club, she says, "Can we talk about the art of kissing, instead?" With Holly, her brother and lovely mom are usually in tow, in true family team spirit. I don’t know much about the pasts of Ara and Joel, but I’m sure they’re hiding something.
Recently, Mynx performed at some bar in Los Feliz, in celebration of Holly’s 99th birthday. Ara and Joel quickly set up (read: Joel sat behind his drums and Ara stirred a large pink cocktail), as Holly and her family walked into the bar. Holly could be heard asking, "Who’s buying me a birthday drink?" as Ara said, "Holly, come on, we’re on…" Holly marched over to Ara and stole his mic, dropping to the floor and knocking over a mic stand. They blasted through a messy and rollicking 3-song set, including the home team anthem, "I’m So L.A." Holly’s mic cut in and out, but it didn’t phase her. When she even noticed, she merely sang louder, crawling over barstools and slithering across the floor. You can see the video for "I’m So L.A." on their site: www.wearemynx.com
Holly, can we talk about the art of kissing?
