A chat with Miren Arzalluz, director of the Palais Galliera about the exhibition Une Histoire de La Mode

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Last week I had the opportunity to talk to Miren Arzalluz, director of the Palais Galliera and have her walk us through the current exhibition, Une Histoire de La Mode at Palais Galliera until June 26, 2022.

The exhibition is a chronological and thematic tour going from the 18th century to current creations from Comme des Garcons. You will find the wardrobe of the Comtesse Greffulhe to Rick Owens and Marc Audibet. Each of the chronological periods is illustrated by the finest pieces in the Palais Galliera- the City of Paris’s fashion musuem. Specific features of that period from the prints of the 19th century to cocktail dresses of the 1950’s. We will be taken from patterns of the 1920’s to the minimalism of the Belgian and Japanese designers from the 1980’s.

350 items from the collection includes garments, accessories, graphic arts and photographs. The exhibition will be presented in two consecutive sections with a 3 week interruption between the two shows. The reason for the break is due to preventive conservation as many of the works will  need to be replaced so when the visitors return they will discover masterpieces that were rarely exhibitied.

Curators: Miren Arzalluz, director of the Palais Galliera, Marie-Laure Gutton, Head of the Accessories department, and the curatorial team of the Palais Galliera.
