Maison J. Simone AW26: Mulet

Dear Shaded viewers,

Yesterday, the house of J. Simone presented its new collection, not far from the Louvre Museum, in gallery Vero Dodat. Welcomed by head pass panels, we were immediately immersed in the heart of what the brand represents, because at that moment, we were the models.

Upon arriving at the gallery, we were handed visors and, as I explored the space, I came across a band, each member sporting a mullet in different colors and dressed with the new collection.

Inspired by the popular aesthetic of the 80s and 90s, the collection reveals a desire to reclaim this so-called “redneck” culture, with its pick-up trucks, mullets, and cowboy hats. The basics are reworked: shirts feature oversized shoulder pads, tights are adorned with fringes, jeans have keychains sewn onto the pockets, and sweatpants come in bold prints. There are also more complex pieces, while still embracing a sense of irony, such as a Mongolian lamb wool coat fastened with a giant hair clip instead of a button, or a dress embellished with faux feathers along the collar and sleeves.

J. Simone succeeds in making fashion more playful. Within its offbeat universe, the brand still manages to convey a message: fashion does not need to be serious to be appreciated. One can absolutely make an impact through humor. This presentation, thought through down to the smallest detail, was designed to bring people together, make them laugh, fascinate them, and spark their curiosity. Because I think, that is what fashion is for — both to provoke a reaction and to create a community.

Sincerely,

Alex.
