“Foreclosure Gothic”: Laura Albert in conversation with Harris Lahti

Watch Part 2, Part 3

In the first part of my interview with Harris Lahti, we discuss the autobiographical aspects of his new novel Foreclosure Gothic, which is based on the experiences of his father, an actor who became a house renovator and once discovered graves buried in the basement of an old house. Harris and I explore the dynamics of hauntings and the ways in which people can come to think of themselves as outsiders in their own homes. He also reminisces about his studies at SUNY Albany with novelist Lynne Tillman: “She really kicked my ass – and it was a really good experience because I wanted to please her.”
