Dear Shaded viewers,
Olly Shinder has collaborated with Magnum Boots for the first-ever footwear design for his namesake brand.
Shinder is based in London, and his design code integrates the elements integral to its culture: nightlife, queer safe spaces, and the utilitarian aesthetics of workwear. Hypermasculinity is central to his brand, yet his cuts, fabrics, and attention to detail present it in a contemporary perspective that celebrates the sensuality of men. Collaborating with Magnum allowed Shinder to extend this vision by reimagining the footwear solutions of uniformed professionals. Police, Military, Ambulance, Fire, Healthcare services, and more have relied on Magnum as providers of high-performance tactical boots since the 1980s, and now their functionality is transferred to a new context.
The CROC GUARD BOOT is immediately identifiable by Shinder’s signature “Crocodile” paneling that features on his outwear. It covers the upper of the shoe, enwrapping it in the protection and sleek texture of action leather. A pull tab and hidden lacing system are discreetly hidden, maintaining the safety features of work boots. Michelin rubber forms the outsole, giving the shoe the highest class of traction, the comfort of Phylon forms the midsole, and a shock-absorbing shank is integrated within the shoe. Its features describe the requirements of all high-demand urban environments – from industrial occupations to warehouse raving.
Since his first season after graduating from Central Saint Martin’s BA Programme, Olly Shinder has been part of Dover Street Market’s agency for emerging fashion talent based in Paris. The shoe will therefore be exclusively available in limited quantities through Dover Street Market and selected retailers from October 24th.
Later,
Eliya
