Luar: A Cultural Tapestry Woven in Fashion proved to be a New York Fashion Week Highlight

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Luar, the brainchild of Raul Lopez, co-founder of Hood By Air and hailing from Williamsburg, is a brand that intricately weaves together the cultural tapestries of New York City and the Dominican Republic. Lopez’s Dominican heritage infused his design journey, which began at the tender age of 12, drawing inspiration from the pulsating downtown New York scene that surrounded him. My introduction to Lopez came through Hood By Air, during a presentation in the apartment of Scarlett Rouge, Michele Lamy’s artist daughter, many years ago—perhaps HBA’s inaugural showcase in Paris.

Luar serves as a conduit, transmitting this vibrant energy to Lopez’s friends in uptown Washington Heights, where they frequented Dominican clubs and gatherings. At the core of Luar’s philosophy lies the perpetual exploration of ‘tomorrow’, capturing the essence of two culturally rich landscapes converging at a crossroads of creativity and expression.
