KidSuper’s Theatrical Alchemy – String Theory Meets Street Couture at PFW 24 by Leticia Dare

Dear Shaded Viewers,

In the electrifying milieu of Paris Fashion Week, KidSuper’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection, aptly titled “String Theory,” emerged as a symphony of urban couture and avant-garde narratives. Colm Dillane, the maverick at the helm of KidSuper, rendered a spectacle that was less a mere fashion show and more an immersive art experience, boldly declaring that everything, indeed, is connected.

This collection was a triumphant exploration of contrasts – from the grace of a contemporary dancer juxtaposed against the enigmatic presence of a Miss Havisham-esque figure, to the unraveling wool skirt that played with the very fabric of time and space. Dillane’s homage to Einstein’s String Theory was not just theoretical; it was a palpable thread weaving through the entire showcase.

The range was a vibrant tapestry of KidSuper’s signature elements: graphic-heavy, audacious, and unapologetically playful. The collaboration with Canada Goose brought us exceptional fleeces, while violet-hued graphic suiting – adorned with Dillane’s illustrations and Einstein’s hypotheses – wove a narrative of intellectual curiosity into streetwear silhouettes.

The show was not without its moments of sheer spectacle. The surprise appearance of football royalty Ronaldinho, donning a massive faux fur and his own image, was a masterstroke in blending pop culture with high fashion. Accessories were a delightful playground of creativity, with sewing machine bags and uniquely shaped grips adding a whimsical touch to the collection.

Dillane’s ability to meld diverse influences into a cohesive collection was on full display. References to his stint with Louis Vuitton menswear, and his ongoing partnership with the NBA and Canada Goose, showcased his knack for collaboration that both respects and transcends the boundaries of traditional fashion.

KidSuper’s “String Theory” was a journey through multiple dimensions – a celebration of the interconnectedness of ideas, styles, and cultural narratives. With each look, Dillane proved that his vision for fashion is not just about clothing, but about creating a universe where every thread leads to an unexpected yet harmonious destination. This show wasn’t just a triumph for KidSuper; it was a statement on the boundless potential of fashion to surprise, delight, and connect us in the most unexpected ways. Special mention must also be made to Alexis and Juliet at KCD who handled the front door with sheer perfection, a first for a KidSuper show!
