In a time where people feel as though they are connecting with each other through social media, Zoom and Facetime, Pieter Mulier takes the opposite approach. There is a disconnect within the connection. So, to remove the barriers of new social constructs and norms, he invited a select group of the fashion industry into his home in Antwerp. The intimate setting let the guests experience the real him and his latest collection for Alaia. In true Azzedine Alaia style, which has always taken a ‘family’ approach to the house, guests viewed the runway in his hallways, lounge room and some even had a view from his bed. Reworking the codes of Alaia, looks included patent leather caged boots and coats shown with tight black silhouettes in jersey and wool. Hooded tops with sheer skirting and body-con knitted catsuits were also placed alongside detailed leather work and pin construct patterns. A sheer nude floor length gown was a standout covered in silver sewing pins.
