Dear Shaded Viewers,
As the Haute Couture collections finish it is interesting to see the collection of André Leon Talley which is currently on auction. On view are 460 lots including caftans, Louis Vuitton luggage, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and paintings, drawings and memorabilia. My favourite piece was the opulent caftan that greeted you as you walked through the door o Christie’s.
This February, Christie’s New York is proud to present the collection of the legendary fashion editor André Leon Talley. As the first Black man to hold the title of Creative Director of American Vogue, Mr. Talley held a rarefied status in the fashion industry. His discerning taste extended well beyond fashion, as reflected in his personal trove which includes haute couture, handbags, jewellery, fine art, literature and the decorative arts. The collection is both glamourous and intimate, reflecting his decades-long relationships with fellow icons including Karl Lagerfeld, Diane von Furstenberg, Ralph Rucci, Tom Ford, Diana Vreeland and Anna Wintour.
Proceeds from the live and online auctions will benefit the Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York and Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina; both of which were close to Mr. Talley’s heart.
The Collection of André Leon Talley will be sold in a live sale on 15 February and an online sale from 27 January – 16 February. A selection of highlights will begin a global tour in Palm Beach, from 18–28 January; continue in Paris, from 19–24 January; and conclude in New York in advance of the sale.
Later,
Diane
