Alpine, the car manufacturer and Obvious, the art collective at Art Paris

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Yesterday I went to the preview of Art Paris and had the opportunity to chat with one of the 3 members of the art collective Obvious, Gaulthier Vernier. If you click on the link above he will talk you through their process and the collaboration.

The car manufacturer Alpine and the art collective Obvious is presenting the fruit of their collaboration at Art Paris 2022. Entirely designed using algorithms, the work explores the creative potential of artificial intelligence and questions its use in our society. In order to create this original work, researchers and artists have exploited the capabilities of machine learning (which consists of allowing computers to “learn” from data) and GANs, a class of unsupervised learning algorithms.

A forerunner in the field of motor racing (the first manufacturer to win a world rally championship), Alpine has built its legend by putting technical innovations at the service of performance and sensations. This collaboration with Obvious, a pioneer in the use of AI in the field of art and the originator of the first work of this type to be presented in an auction house, continues this dialogue between technology and our emotions.
