Dear Shaded Viewers,
Welcome to Americana on acid with Matty Bovan. From deconstructed American sporting motifs to multiple interpretations of the US flag – stars & stripes in mix mediums of knits, 3D sculptural pieces and hand painted on denim – to western belts, folk art quilting techniques and Pollyanna dresses covered in guns, Bovan went deep into the stereotypes of American culture at its best. Chaos & destruction ensured, Bovan took the masculine side of American baseball and working-class middle America and made them into genderless garments of exaggerated proportions. Through impeccable layering and collaborations with Adidas, Vivienne Westwood, Roksanda Ilincic, Alpha Industries, Diemme, Converse and the iconic Calvin Klein jean, Bovan highlighted his recent time in the US and the dystopic patriotic symbolism that surrounded him. It was punk, it was rebellion, and it was powerful.
