Saint Sintra designed by Sintra Martins is happily growing her brand with her sophomore collection

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Saint Sintra aka Sintra Martins is an independent New York based brand.  Sintra Martins is originally from Los Angeles,  born and raised in Venice Beach. She started working in a costume shop when she was still in high school. Sintra moved to New York in 2014,  graduated from Parsons and interned with Thom Browne. Prior to that she enjoyed being a club kid and has always had a fascination for the 80’s which is less evident in her current collection than it was in her debut one. This time out Sintra gives a nod to the early 2000’s with both well tailored and sensually slinky,  serious but playful,  clothes. Martins launched her brand in January 2020. I don’t know why but when I look at the collection I can hear Cyndi Lauper singing “Girls Just Want To Have Fun”.

Sintra Martins sophomore collection experiments with various silhouettes and textiles using fabrics such as heavy orange mohair plaid, rich worsted calvary twills, luxurious tuxedo barathea and traditional English shetland tweeds, oxfords and poplins. Martins plays with volumes,  articulated sleeves and oversized bows. Her cotton wedding gown looks like the textile went through a paper shredder and ended up as a magical lantern cut out of paper.

The brand no longer focuses  on the made-to-order but rather is intent on building a strong wholesale business that she envisions being sustainable  for a long time to come.

Stockists include: Dover St Market London, Ssense, H Lorenzo and Café Forgot, and is represented by New York PR consultant Gia Kuan, who has helped develop American labels such as Telfar and Fear of God.
