Rick Owens – a portal to the unknown…lights the way to the future

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Rick is his own inspiration however…a trip to Egypt seemed to open a portal to the unknown past and future. The show took place on several different levels of the Palais de Tokyo, I was in the room upstairs, it was dark with strobe lights flashing. Models wore fluorescent light sculptures as crowns, it was a dive into ancient Egypt then catapulted into the future, contemporary Akhenatens parading through strobe lights. “Glamsleazy Light Seekers” he said to indulge his id. The headpieces, when not worn as helmets will plug into the wall and can be used as lamps, for the show, models carried battery packs.

Strong shoulders are a signature of the collection, silhouettes are slim or voluminous or both in the same look. Puffer coats have hoods that zip up, fetish style, and cover the entire face. I happen to be reading To Paradise by Hanya Yanagihara and one section is about life in 2094 and as I watched the models in their protective gear walking past me, I could not help but think that this is the gear for our future.
