Vetements Bets Big on Fall 2022 by Aybuke Barkcin

Dear Shaded Viewers,

After transporting us into a world filled with neon green codes and present-day Neos, last night Vetements presented the Fall 2022 collection with a lookbook staged in front of million dollar bills. When one thinks of Vetements, one must expect a collection filled with hidden references, symbols and a ‘fashionable’ commentary on societal dynamics… always with humour of course.

For this season, Guram Gvasalia turned his attention towards a new generation of millionaires, those making money off of social media apps, OnlyFans, Bitcoin… and others dreaming of getting rich overnight.

“The early 20th century couturiers focused on industry tycoons who made money with oil, real estate, chocolate bars. This collection is pushing to redefine the couture and the savoir faire for the new era” the creative director said.

One coloured multi-layered looks dominated the collection with Vetements’s signature oversized silhouettes. Printed tees, baggy ripped jeans, bodysuits, voluminous puffers, hoodies… balanced out with tailored coats, hour-glass jackets, black jersey skirt and statement necklaces. The sweet spot between comfort-wear and elegance.

Of course the striking element of the collection wasn’t dollar bill prints and lottery tickets, but the hidden faces of the camouflaged models, as the masks acted as an illustration of the increasingly digitalised and surveilled world, where privacy has become, as Gvasalia puts it “the ultimate luxury”.
