Dear Shaded Viewers,
Partners in life and in business, Antonio Zaragoza and Kenia Fillippini from Guadalajara, Mexico presented their collection in Paris at 3537 which gave me the opportunity to meet them. One piece on show was a shredded up sweatshirt with 19 thousand Swarovski hand sewn crystals. Kenia Fillippini does a spin-off womenswear collection Dream Baby! In essence their dreams have become their reality. Zaragoza created the brand in Guadalajara in 2016 and has an ongoing partnership with Dover Street Market Paris where if you are in Paris…now till September 19th you can meet them at their installation at 3537.
LYM pop up store and Filippini Atelier workshop, an invitation to experience the process of local and handmade creation, will take place from September 9th to 19th at 3537, a new cultural space in the heart of the Marais.
Liberal Youth Ministry is a clothing brand established and produced locally in Mexico. The interest of the brand lies in expressing dreamlike and rebellious feelings.
The pop up will consist of a special selection from the F/W21 collection entitled Spiritual Punk and limited garments produced especially for the event with archival and stock fabrics. The space will have an installation of fresh eco-friendly local flowers and plants that will harmonize the space with a natural and beautiful language.
Throughout the week, the Filippini Atelier workshop will demonstrate to the public manual creation techniques to transform garments.
A collective creation, open to all without any limitation of time, will take place during the whole duration of the pop up. Come join the team and participate in working through a technique of applying Swarovski crystals by hand to pieces produced especially for the event. What we seek with this manifestation of teamwork is to stop time, find a beautiful space and give people a moment of reflection by making them aware of the value of what is done by hand. The public will collectively alter these pieces throughout the 10 days. At the end, the collective works will be exhibited as a manifesto of creative freedom, teamwork, and an essay on hand-made work.
In addition, a second section of the atelier will propose to explore 3 different techniques through intimate workshops of 5 participants. Discover the natural dyeing process with grana cochilla and different plants brought from Oaxaca, Mexico as well as 2 different hand embroidery skills (hand needle and Luneville crochet), distressing techniques, and manual application of Swarovski crystals.
The manifesto of these workshops seeks to remodel ones take on complex techniques of hand-making, revealing that they are achievable with the resources you have at hand.
On Wednesday September 15th at 8PM, Elias Bender Rønnenfelt, vocalist of the Danish band Iceage, will give an acoustic concert open to the public in the flower installation as a celebration of the LYM pop up and Filippini Atelier workshop. http://liberalyouthministry.com @ liberal_youth_ministry
