Dear Shaded Viewers,
Bonding is a constant theme with the designer behind the brand Sacai, Chitose Abe. Opposites merge together and re-contextualize, fabrications like paisley bandana prints, buffalo checks, rug jacquards, waterproof nylon, workwear, bonded seams… Suiting shapes get mixed up with outdoor technical details – external workwear pockets and bonded seams. Long Chesterfield coat silhouettes morph into a waterproof coat dress. Satin mixes with ripstop nylon. A classic tweed cardigan jacket gets technical, integrated with waterproof paneling. The buffalo check is re-imagined in three fabrics, all joined together and graduating to a chiffon base. Piercings toughen up the delicacy of chiffon plaids and bandana prints are re-created as an appliqué on chiffon.
The ultimate expression of the idea comes courtesy of a collaboration with ACRONYM®, combining the designer Errolson Hugh’s signature technical details with sacai fabrics and shapes for men and women, and, for the first time for ACRONYM®, a dress silhouette. Hugh says, ‘Having known Chitose, and of course sacai, for many years, this collaboration is the ideal kind of crosspollination. And as I believe you can see from the results, it’s a true blend of the philosophies of both brands, where the sum is greater than the parts.’
Who does not love Astier de Villatte? This season a collaboration with a wicker picnic basket with their beautifulParisian ceramics.
