VALENTINO Spring Summer 2021 – MFW – Text by Ivo Barraza Castaneda.

It was quite a surprise to watch a physical show from a big house this season. Valentino, who is back showing to its motherland, Italy, made its own statement by hosting a  physical presentation for their Spring Summer 2021 collection. I must admit that the first 1 minute of the video from the runway made me feel very anxious. Its is strange to think of big gatherings and to see people not wearing masks (especially if you live in Paris)

The main focus was the bags, which we must agree are a very interesting upgrade of the traditional studded iconic bag from the brand.

The styling of the collection was almost hyper realistic. It is actually interesting how much it works on the runway. Usually stylists and designers use styling approaches that are far from the way users, even the most sophisticated ones, approach their clothes. So, points on Valentino for that.

As we advance on the fashion month it can be fun to start pointing out some common points on all the collections so far. A.K.A. Trends, here is a little list:

  1. Black and White.
  2. Minimalist austerity.
  3. Big scale flowers on prints.
  4. Kitten heels.
  5. Yellow as a colour accent on the season’s palette.

Hello, my name is Ivo. My three favorite things in life are: Thinking deeply about visual creation. I like having long discussions of ideas that might reinvent the course of history. And finally, spending time with the people I love. Since I was a child, I was always involved in some activity around plastic arts, music and literature. That’s how I learned to sew by hand at the age of five, which later led me to focus on my main professional media: Fashion Design.
