Sies Marjan’s tribute to the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas’s forthcoming exhibition

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Sies Marjan sponsors in part the upcoming exhibition ‘Countryside, The Future’ opening later this month at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC. The exhibition will explore remote and wild landscapes shifting the focus from urban to rural ecology.

A selection of fabric was created through contact dyeing practices using fresh foliage found
locally in both New York City’s plant district and Ithaca in collaboration with Cornell
University. In addition, the brand collaborated with Dutch textile artist Claudy Jongstra
through Maharam to create a completely sustainable iteration of Drenth Heathe wool, mulberry
silk, and silk chiffons. The textiles were created using biodynamic dye to create a natural
palette of Northern colored hues. Lastly, Visual Artist Diana Scherer has developed a bio-
technique to control the growth of plant roots. In the project Interwoven the natural network
of the root system turns into a textile. Sherer created custom textiles for the runway
collection.
