Dear Shaded Viewers,
Today my friend Chiara Sabatini and I decided to take in a bit of beauty. Our second stop today, after Claude Lalanne at Galerie Mitterrand was Subodh Gupta at Monnaie de Paris. We were in heaven…Subodh Gupta is an Indian artist based in New Delhi. He was trained as a painter but his work encompasses sculpture, installation, photography, video and performance. He takes utensils from daily life that he has moulded in metal and brings us to the kitchen which is the center of life in India. Through these sculptures we are introduced to everyday rituals and spirituality. We travel from the kitchen to the cosmos.
The exhibition articulates through six rooms each with a particular theme: the language of the community, A very hungry God, There is Always Cinema, God is in the kitchen, Voyage and exile, the celestrial body and in the courtyard of Monnaie de Paris – the People tree.
The exhibition is open now until August 26th. If I’ve sparked your interest, please pay a visit.
