Voices of East London – December 13th 11h00 to 21h00 a one-day festival of art, fashion, food and design at the Old Spitalfields Market

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Big excitement at the Old Spitalfields Market where Mei-Hui Liu, the Queen of East London for the past 18 years, will be taking her Secret Rendez-vous concept back to the Old Spitalfield market to celebrate East London and the launch of Maryam Eisler’s book Voices East London. The event brings together the now famous creatives that once started at Spitalfield’s market in the late 1990s. Part exhibition, part retail pop-up, part performance; this is a chance for both the established and upcoming East London personalities that have been involved in East London’s eclectic history to celebrate together at the iconic Old Spitalfields Market.

There are going to be 80 stalls focusing on art, fashion, lifestyle, food, publishing,  charities, and more… Voices East London Market Festival will pair together the characters and ideas shared in Maryam Eisler’s new publication Voices East London. Co-curated by Mei-Hui Liu, founder of Secret-Render Vous,

Voices East London is a new publication by Maryam Eisler who has spent the last two years capturing the area’s vibrancy at the forefront of Greater London’s evolving persona, revealing East London’s thriving kaleidoscope of visual geography by means of dynamic interviews and striking new photography. The book places East London among Europe’s pre-eminent ‘creative ghetto’ communities with a future that may well determine the capital’s cultural direction.

Secret Rendez-Vous is collection of events first established in 1998, connecting talented creative people together in the East End through parties and fashion shows. First moving to London in the 1990s, at a time when the area was first buzzing with a very exclusive “creative tribe” of artists, musicians, designers and inspirational characters of all sorts, Mei-Hui Liu saw this as the dawn of a new era for London when the city’s pulse was racing with a renewed sense of vitality, new approaches to style, new attitudes and boundless energy.

Dedicated to the makers of East London, through a host of pop-up shops, exhibitions, workshops, performances and fashion shows, the event will support two local East London charities. Spitalfield Crypt Trust,  a charity supporting people recovering from addiction and Cardboard Citizens for homeless whilst Cardboard Citizens has made life-changing theatre with and for homeless people for more than 25 years. Think about it as a great opportunity for members of the art and design community to come together in a one day celebration. A chance to meet, to chat, to exhibit and to buy.
