FASHIONCLASH 2017 – MAARTEN VAN MULKEN – PHOTOS BY TEAM PETER STIGTER

Dear Shaded Viewers,

A graduate of AKB Maastricht, Maarten van Mulken presented his womenswear collection during Fashionclash, focusing on stylish separates and feminine dresses. Entitled “KILL YOUR DARLINGS”, his collection had an undeniable in-your-face, aggressive charge, but the clothes were actually quite refined, including pretty elements and precious touches that contradicted the overall styling. The Dutch designer used stripes and contrasting textures, as well as loud prints, to create clashing effects. Most of the clothes were dynamic and slightly anarchic, but the simplest pieces were often the best, such as a long white dress with black piping or feminine blouse worn with an embellished satin skirt. His masks were also intricate and intriguing, combining scattered sequins with translucent fabrics. Think Leigh Bowery meets Guerilla Girls.

Best,

Philippe
