Fashion LIVE! 2016 – Jan Černý

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Discovering Jan Černý’s work was an exciting moment during my stay in Bratislava attending the last edition of Fashion LIVE! – Slovak Fashion Week Initiative. Jan Černý is Czech and -despite still being a graduate- has already attracted the attention of buyers and editors with his edgy menswear pieces. His last collection was inspired by male prostitution in early 90s Prague, dressing his models in tattered denim jackets and reassembled jeans, as well as patched tailored shirts, which embodied the damaged and fragile nature of his men. Černý’s clothes are bold, handcrafted and raw; their energy is visceral, giving a strong presence to his looks. The Room by Basmatee in Prague will stock a new capsule collection he designed from the 12th of November and he won the Fresh Designer prize in Bratislava, where his work is clearly appreciated.
